Icelandic Cuisine

Everything closes very early in Iceland. After a long day with the tour, I walked around the city myself and lost track with the time...because the sky doesn't get dark! I walked around to look for a restaurant, but everything was closed after 10pm. I finally walked into a restaurant with my puppy face and asked "Is there any other restaurant open at this time?" around 10:20pm. And thankfully with the wonderful people, they let me in! : D I would've cried so hard missing this meal after a long day without lunch...

So I decided to start with...a little bit of everything! A great starter with everything in it that I won't want to miss.

Birch glazed minke whale:

Puffin with blueberry chutney:

Wind dried fish:

Crunchy Icelandic seaweed:

Fermented shark:

The smell of the fermented shark was so strong that I can't think of anything to compare with. Maybe blue cheese? But I think you'd have to do (x100) to it. The smell stayed even after I finished my dessert.

Here go my dessert! I was so full after my starter that I couldn't not order a main dish...but of course I feel terrible leaving with just a starter, so I ordered the most Icelandic dessert for a great ending, Skyr.

Skyr is an Icelandic dairy mousse with white chocolate, lime ganache, blueberry-sorbet, and a fancy moose berry.

Goose berry! It looked better than it taste...just a little bit better than lemons. D:

So, now I can add on whales, puffins, and fermented shark to my food list challenge! ;)
