"Kein
Deutsch." means "No German". It also means "I don't speak
German & I do not understand you."
The
first time I heard this was in Heidelberg. I heard people talking in my back
and I sensed the unpleasantness...probably talking about how we were not
speaking in German and we are probably tourists. "...Oh see they're not
speaking German...Kein Deutsch...They are tourists..." I don't know enough
German but I picked up "Kein Duetsch" quickly.
There's
one thing I truly dislike being in a foreign country: I cannot possibly talk
back and argue with anyone, simply because I do not know their language. I have
to admit, this really bothers me from time to time.
