Christmas Markets

Christmas market is really big everywhere in Europe. Every town will have its own market starting from end of November till Christmas. Everyday including Sundays!  (There is nothing more exciting than opening stores on a Sunday in Germany since nothing can be open on Sundays by law.)

There are a few traditional food you must try when you go to a Christmas market:

1. Glühwein- also called mulled wine, for Christmas and wintertime. It it served hot, very sweet and smooth, with a bit of spice and sometimes a slice of orange in it. The most common Glühwein is with red wine. You can also get one with white wine or cider, but they will be more difficult to find than the red wine Glühwein.

2. Kartoffelpuffer- Potato Buffers. They are similar to hash browns, but less chunky  Serves with apple sauce or garlic sauce. I personally love Kartoffelpuffer with apple sauce.

3. Pilzfanne- Mushroompan (I haven't found this at the Christmas market yet, but I was told that they're amazing!)

4. Feuerzangenbowle- Burn sugar on a fork into rum (I haven't found this at the Christmas market yet either.)

5. XXL Sausages- typical German. I guess making them really long (probably 30cm) creates a more festive feel to it.
